Message From Shadow
In trying to build the definitive online discography for all products related to my music, we’ve discovered many gaps, as well as several surprises. For example, I had completely forgotten that the CUBE Magazine/Unkle picture disc existed until stumbling on a box buried in storage a few weeks ago. Therefore, THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. I’m human; I forget stuff.
There are obviously other online discographies related to myself and Mo’ Wax, many of which are EXTREMELY thorough, but I’ve also noticed a lot of errors and inconsistencies. So, I am only including those items that I physically own and can hold in my hand. If you would like to point out glaring errors or omissions, email generalinfo@djshadow.com Please provide a photo of your item, or a high-quality scan, and we’ll consider amending or including the product. Trying to locate all of the items that I raided from the Mo’ Wax cabinet, or was handed on a Japan tour 15 years ago, is an ongoing process, so expect more additions and corrections in the weeks and months to come.
Also, please note that I am only including items that contain my music, so other Mo’ Wax and Quannum releases won’t be seen here. My criteria for inclusion is, “does it contain any music of mine on it?” If yes, it’s in. If no, it’s out. Otherwise this section would be unmanageable.
One of the most-asked questions on the site is, “How can I tell if my copy of Lesson 4/Brainfreeze/Diminishing Returns, etc. is real?” For all of those people, and for any collectors that might be viewing, we have tried to include notes within the discography alerting you to any item that may have been bootlegged or is particularly obscure. Think of it as “a guide to collecting DJ Shadow,” contained within the item descriptions. This feature, too, will be enhanced as information is confirmed.
The discography has been neglected for a while now, so I’m glad to have turned my attention to it again, albeit for a short time. Again, there will be mistakes, and there will be omissions. But with your help, I hope to eventually be able to call this work-in-progress what I’ve always wanted to: the DEFINITIVE discography of all things DJ Shadow.
